This
epoch-making event is the first of its kind ever in the world and is
aimed at creating a global awareness of the Malaria scourge in Nigeria
and the efforts at combating it. Nigeria has the highest Malaria burden
in the world. About 60% of all outpatient visits to hospitals in Nigeria
are due to Malaria. This scourge accounts for 11% of all maternal
deaths and 30% of all childhood deaths in Nigeria. Globally, Malaria
kills a child every 2 minutes and about 500000 deaths annually.
Expected
to participate in this event are the Federal Ministry Of Health, Rivers
State Ministry Of Health, Healthcare professionals, Academia,
Environmental Experts, Political, Religious, Traditional/Community
Leaders, NGOS, Pharmaceutical Companies, Environmental Experts and
Healthcare Personnel. Others include; Investors, Students, Businessmen
and Women, over 5000 persons are expected in the two-day event with over
a million others following via various online media platforms and
YouTube. This festival would feature Malaria walk, lectures, Malaria
panel, drug exhibitions, free Malaria tests/treatment, dramas and
cultural displays. Expected to speak at the Event
are Prof. Mrs. Ebong (Professor of Pharmacology) College of Health Sciences Uniport,
Dr. Nwabueze Ebere Senior Lecturer and Head Malaria Entomology Research
Laboratory Department of Animal and Environmental Biology Rivers State
University, Professor Nduka Nsirim (Professor of Chemical Pathology) University
Of Port-Harcourt, Dr. (Mrs) Dada Korubo (Consultant Hematologist UPTH), Dr. Chijioke
Mbelu (Medical Director Newyou Wellness Hospital), Professor Blessing Didia VC
Rivers State University and others. Awards of excellence would be given to
deserving individuals, Institutions and Companies for their work and
contributions in the fight against Malaria in Nigeria.
