We've compiled two occasions where President Bola Tinubu publicly criticised former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over the privatization of government assets.
First Instance
President Tinubu questioned Atiku's record as Chairman of Nigeria's privatization council, arguing that several privatized public assets had failed to deliver the expected results.
"No one among them (coalition leaders) is without history. The head (Atiku) was the chairman of the privatization council of Nigeria at one time. They privatized the steel industry in Delta. Is it working today? They privatized Ajaokuta. Is it working today? They privatized another man's political party; that one says no."
Second Instance
Tinubu again criticised Atiku, alleging that government assets were privatized during his time as Vice President while pension obligations were left unpaid.
The President made the remarks on Thursday while addressing Northeast stakeholders who paid him a thank-you visit after he re-nominated Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
According to Tinubu, his administration is now settling pension arrears that accumulated following the privatization of government investments in public enterprises during Atiku's tenure as Vice President.
"If I can go political, somebody among my prospective opponents privatized government investment in public entities but forgot to pay the pensions. I'm clearing the pensioners now, so clearing the mess they created," President Tinubu said.
